A-Project Gallery Social & Exhibition

The Androgyny Project or A-Project is a social commentary inspired by an incident that occurred in a public restroom where the artist witnessed a confrontation due to a case of mistaken identity. A woman, holding her child by the hand called out, “is this the women’s room or men’s room? It looks like there is a man in here!”  For the artist, showcasing individuals that do not fit into typical binary gender roles within society brings awareness to discrimination within the gender spectrum. The installation features subjects portraits and stories about “being andro”. It then engages viewers in a playful game of gender guessing. The portraits are made using an acetone transfer where the ink has been hand pressed into watercolor paper.

Join us Thursday, June 12th, 2014 for the opening gallery social at Artserve. (The exhibit runs June 5th-27th).
